CONGRATULATIONS MICK
Michael (Mick) Hill has just made his first class debut against Queensland in the shield match in Brisbane in February 2010.

Lloyd Mash is also playing so does that mean two DVCA ex-juniors are in the state team at the same time? .... is that a first??

ELYSE VILLANI

Elyse_Villani_ELYSE VILLANI continues to make headlines
Elyse has been selected for the Australian shooting stars squad which is soon to play against the visiting English women.  Elyse was one of the "finds" of the season, as shown by her 51 against national finalists-to-be South Australia in Adelaide last week.

Originally from Plenty CC where her three older brothers Chris, Andy and Steve all played, Elyse first played at senior level at Brunswick Park as a 14-year-old. She has a career high of 151 to her credit, scored last year against Hawthorn-Monash. "I like to play my own game," she says of her strategy." I like to attack".

At 170 cm, Elyse is tall and strong for her age. She is intending to defer a teaching course so she can do some volunteer work in Vietnam in autumn. She will then return to hockey as her winter sport as part of her preparation for the 2008-09 Australian season.

MICHAEL HILL

Michael_HillMichael Hill (ex Diamond Creek CC junior) has just been appointed skipper of the Australian Under 19 side.

As Captain of Victoria he led his side to its first U19 championship since 2003-03. This was after a string of impressive personal performances with both bat and ball in the championships recently held in Tasmania.

He will lead the national side in the 2008 ICC Cricket U19 World Cup to be held in Malaysia in February and March next year.

You're going to hear a lot more of him!

EJAAZ ALAVI makes VPSSA U13 State team
Ejaaz Alavi (Macleod U12/U14 player) has been selected to represent Victoria in the Victorian Primary Schools team. This affable young left-arm orthodox spinner who bats right handed has a very big future in the game. Watch out for him on a DVCA ground near you!
OK trivia buffs - can you name the last DVCA player to make either the VPSSA or VSSSA sides?

...something worthwhile to share with all clubs
Over the weekend (27/28 October 2007) one of our players who suffers from cerebral palsy played in an Under 14(2) side against North Eltham. When he came into bat North Eltham brought on slower bowlers to give him every opportunity to score. On behalf of Lower Plenty I would like to congratulate and thank North Eltham for the spirit you showed to this player. Well done to your coach and players. Good luck for the rest of the 2007-08 season.
(from Michael Bowen, Junior Coordinator Lower Plenty Cricket Club)

ODD SPOTS
St Francis (9/10 December 2006)
Worth noting that for the first time in the history of St Francis of Assisi CC, all their senior teams won, as well as their Under 16s & 14s. It is a significant milestone for St Francis, which is gradually building momentum throughout the Club (contributor - Desley O'Halloran, St Francis CC)

Eltham (2 December 2006)
TWO DOUBLE CENTURIES IN ONE INNINGS: PANTON HILL v ELTHAM F GRADE - played at St Andrews
To start this rather astonishing day, Mark Jones and his younger brother Elwin (U16 player) put on 104 for the first wicket. Then John Cranny (the captain, who is 40 years of age) joined Mark. At tea, the score was 1/218 off 42 overs, M. Jones 89no, J. Cranny 66no. However, in the 26 overs after tea, 299 runs were scored off 26 overs. Mark and John put on a 2nd work partnership of 333 before John Cranny was dismissed for 205. Mark batted the entire day to finish 200 not out...as you can guess, quite a few sixes were hit, particularly by John Cranny (contributor - Trevor Jones, Eltham CC).
