ELYSE VILLANI

 Elyse_Villani_

ELYSE VILLANI
Elyse was selected for the Australian shooting stars squad which played against the visiting English women.  Elyse was one of the "finds" of the season, as shown by her 51 against national finalists South Australia in Adelaide.

Originally from Plenty CC where her three older brothers Chris, Andy and Steve all played, Elyse first played at senior level at Brunswick Park as a 14-year-old. She has a career high of 151 to her credit, scored last year against Hawthorn-Monash. "I like to play my own game," she says of her strategy." I like to attack".

At 170 cm, Elyse is tall and strong for her age. She is intending to defer a teaching course so she can do some volunteer work in Vietnam in autumn. She will then return to hockey as her winter sport as part of her preparation for the 2008-09 Australian season.

Elyse was a nominee for the 2007/08 Commonwealth Bank Future Star Award in November. Villani (Brunswick Park CC) scored an impressive 60 not out against Essendon Maribyrnong Park to put her name up in contention for the opening WNCL matches against Western Australia in Perth. Villani was named in an expanded squad as cover for opening batter Melanie Jones who was under an injury cloud going into the match. A week later Villani turned in a starring performance, this time with the ball against Hawthorn Monash University. Chasing Brunswick Park’s 290 Hawthorn Monash Uni were well placed at 4/172 before Villani took five wickets in six overs. The final three wickets fell in consecutive deliveries as Villani claimed a hat trick to end the match.
